About Us

The San Bernardino County Public Health Laboratory (PHL) serves a population of over 2,000,000 county residents in a 20,160 square mile area, making it the largest county in California and equal to the size of West Virginia. San Bernardino County PHL, being a medium size laboratory, provides laboratory services to various county programs and clinics.  In addition, PHL provides reference services, consultations, surveillance and assisting in epidemiological investigations. It serves urban, suburban and rural communities.  Samples that are collected in clinics in rural areas are delivered to the laboratory by health department personnel or county couriers.

Essential Tests and Referral Services

The Public Health Laboratory provides testing in HIV Viral Load, HIV Genotyping, Hepatitis,  amplification testing for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea, Mycobacteriology, Mycology, Flow Cytometry, Special Serology, Enterics, Parasitology, Syphilis, Viral Culture and Serology, Rabies, Bacteriology, Water testing and Food Bacteriology.  In addition, rapid testing using Real Time PCR methodology is available.  For a complete lists of other tests performed, contact the San Bernardino County Public Health Laboratory.
