Overview
San Joaquin County Public Health Laboratory was established in 1923 and is one of the larger Public Health Laboratories in the State of California. The laboratory serves a demographically diverse population of over 668,000 people within San Joaquin County and also functions as the Regional Public Health Laboratory for the counties of Tuolumne, Amador, Alpine, Mariposa, Calaveras, Mono and Sierra. The San Joaquin County Public Health Laboratory (PHL) is a California State and Federally certified facility that works in conjunction with public health clinics, local hospitals and health care providers, the Department of Environmental Health and the Public Health Departments from surrounding counties.
The San Joaquin County Public Health Laboratory also serves as a California LRN (Laboratory Response Network) Reference (Level B) Laboratory. As a LRN Reference Laboratory, the laboratory provides confirmatory testing for potential bioterrorism agents, training to Sentinel (Level A) Laboratories and training to first responders for San Joaquin County, as well as the counties of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, Mono, Stanislaus, and Tuolumne.

San Joaquin County Public Health Laboratory provides clinical and reference testing in the areas of virology, serology, molecular biology, mycobacteriology, mycology and parasitology utilizing sophisticated, state-of-the-art technology.

San Joaquin County Public Health Laboratory is staffed by dedicated professionals specially trained to provide Public Health Laboratory services. All Microbiologists are certified by the State of California.
