About Us
The Santa Clara County Public Health Laboratory (PHL) serves the fourth largest county in the state with a demographically diverse population of over 1.7 million people. It is also the Reference Laboratory for Monterey, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. As a Reference Laboratory, we provide confirmatory testing for potential bioterrorism agents, training to Sentinel Laboratories and training to first responders.
Essential Tests and Referral Services
The Santa Clara County PHL provides clinical and reference testing in the areas of bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and virology. The Laboratory offers a large menu of real-time PCR molecular tests. The laboratory also performs water testing, testing for food-borne outbreaks, rabies testing, and tick testing.
The Santa Clara County PHL supports the programs and activities of the Public Health Department and the community, and provides reference testing, consultation and training to health professionals.
