Introduction
Referral Services and Essential Tests
The Sonoma County Public Health Lab provides consultation and reference services to other laboratories and the medical community in the specialities of bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, rabies, immunology, water and food-borne disease, virology and sexually transmitted diseases.
The Sonoma County Public Health Laboratory also provides Molecular Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction(RT-PCR)tests for the rapid diagnosis of a variety of infectious diseases, including: Pertussis(whooping cough), TB (Mycobacteria, tuberculosis), Norovirus (food poisoning outbreaks) and Influenzavirus (Flu). These results may be made available within hours after the specimen arrives at the laboratory. Contact the laboratory for additional information. These tests are available for the catchment areas of Sonoma County.
Oyster testing. Sonoma does testing for Marin County and the State. There are 9 oyster growers in the area. Tick-borne testing for private labs and the State Lab sends samples to Sonoma for testing.
